The Top 1%

The Top 1%

To be in the top 1% of earners in the UK you need taxable income of £160,000. Those with unconventional methods of income I.E entrepreneurs who live off Capital Gains or Directors Loans wont be captured in this list (and of course those who manage to bypass the taxman completely) £260K is required to be in the top 0.5% of earners whilst > £600K gets you into the top 0.1%. Being in the top percentile of the wealth bracket is a different story and tends to have different connotations depending on where you live.

For example someone living in Monaco will need a net wealth of $7.9m to be considered in the top 1% of their population. For the UK you need net wealth of $1.8m to be in the top 1%, whilst in Kenya you can join the 1% club by having net means of $20K. I often hear people say they want to relocate to a 3rd world country to make their money go further. But the reason why most people are reluctant is because of the risk that emerging markets pose to your capital.
